Support for the whole family
A doula supports the family — and especially the mother — through birth and the postpartum period. Where a Newborn Care Specialist focuses on the baby, a doula focuses on the people caring for the baby: comfort, recovery, confidence and emotional support. Many families choose both.
Our founder, Lissette Palencia, is a birth and postpartum doula and lactation educator, and she brings that experience to every doula placement.
Birth support
A birth doula provides continuous, non-medical support before, during and just after birth: help preparing a birth plan, comfort measures and reassurance during labor, and support for the whole family as the baby arrives.
Postpartum support
A postpartum doula helps the family recover and settle in at home, day or night:
- Support for the mother’s rest and recovery
- Feeding support and encouragement
- Help with newborn care while parents learn
- Light household help around the baby — meals, laundry and tidying
- Reassurance, guidance and a calm presence during the first weeks
A doula is not a medical provider; your healthcare team remains your first call for medical questions.
- Background checked
- Referenced
- Interviewed in person
Finding your doula
During your consultation we learn about your pregnancy, your plans and the kind of support you want. We then present doulas who match. Each one is background checked, referenced and interviewed in person, and you interview the candidates you are considering.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a doula and a Newborn Care Specialist?
A doula supports the family — and especially the mother — through birth and the postpartum period: comfort, recovery, emotional support and help settling in at home. A Newborn Care Specialist focuses on the baby: feeding, routines, sleep and overnight care. Many families use both.
How does the placement fee work?
Members pay their annual membership and an 8% placement fee on each hire, where a traditional agency typically charges an initiation fee plus 25%. For individual services outside a membership, we explain the fees during your consultation, before any search begins.
What happens if the caregiver is not the right fit?
Tell us as soon as you can. We will talk through what is not working and what you need instead, and support you in finding a better match under the terms of your service or membership. Members have 24/7 support throughout the year.
